The Brahma Vaivarta Purana is one of the major eighteen puranas, divided into four parts. The first part describes the creation of the Universe and all living beings, the second part describes the different Goddesses of the Hindu religion, the third part is dedicated to the life and deeds of Lord Vighneshwara and the fourth and the last part gives a detailed account of Lord Krishna's life and deeds.
The second part, which is called the "Prakrithi Khanda"deals with Goddesses or Shakthis who are the manifestations of Prakrithi. In this chapter Radha is depicted as Prakrithi and Krishna as Purusha.
The fourth and last part is called the "Krishna Janma Khanda", which is all about the life and great deeds of Lors Krishna.
In the Brahma Vaivarta Purana (Krishna Janma Khanda) Durga talks with Shiva about how She is an expansion from the highest realms and explains Herself in this way:"I am Mahalakshmi in Vaikuntha, Radha in Goloka, Shivaa (connected with Shiva) in the region of Shiva, and Saraswathi in the abode of Brahma." Thus, from the highest levels of the spiritual domain She expands Herself to include all other Shakthis or potencies.
On the auspicious day of Radhashtami,( which falls on the 27th of August this year) devotees recite Radha Sthuthi.
