A.R.RAHMAN

"I am very keen to see the progress in music education:)" (in his own words), Mr.A.R.Rahman added while graciously accepting my invitation to be the Chief Guest for the annual convocation of Chennai Government Music College on Friday, 20th April, 2012.
The students screamed in frenzy when Mr.A.R.Rahman's name was announced as the Chief Guest for the convocation.
With the blessings of Honourable Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, Dr.J.Jayalalithaa the event is expected to be unique and one of its kind.  Mr.A.R.Rahman has insisted that the programme should be held IN THE COLLEGE PREMISES ONLY (on Greenways Road, Chennai) and not in a fancy air-conditioned auditorium. To quote him:-"The whole idea of my coming to the college is to get the college noticed and to improve the status of music education."
Education Minister Mr.N.R.Sivapathi has called on a meeting this Sunday to discuss the arrangements for the unique convocation with the international legend, Mr.A.R.Rahman as Chief Guest.

How would it be, if one were to play the lyric in violin or santoor or veena or even harmonium supported by indian percussion instruments like tabla, mridhangam, kanjira or ghatam, I imagine.

I dream of a day when a music college in Chennai or anywhere in India is seen with equal awe and respect as an MIT or a Harvard. I'm sure under your guidance and leadership, that day is not too far. Also, just a thought - Can corporate employees enrol themselves in a music college? Is there a system where music is taught formally in colleges during weekends or everyday from 6 30 PM to 9 30 PM? I always had this dream of studying music in a college. For 3 or 4 years, it would be unimaginable bliss!

Best regards,
