The name game! (Part 2)

I have found 9 to be a magical number. It is a fiery number well suited for police, navy and army, but surprisingly many trendsetting artistes have names that add upto number 9.
Innumerable examples like, Ghulam Ali (27), Madonna (27),Sylvester Stallone (63), N.T.Rama Rao (27), Rajnikanth (27), Ghantasala (27), Madhubala (27), Mali (9), D.K.Pattammal (36), Palghat Mani Iyer (45), M.S.Subbulakshmi (45), Elvis Presley (45), Elizabeth Taylor (45), Bismillah Khan (36), Latha Mangeshkar (45), Umayalpuram K.Sivaraman (63), Semmangudi, popularly known by his surname-(36), to name a few.The number 27 is known as "The Sceptre" and bestows power, command and authority on the person or entity. The other compound numbers 36 and 45 have the same meaning as 27. Even the dynamic organisation, "Music Academy" adds to 36 (the name vibrates without the prefix-'The', as people usually refer to the organisation without 'the'. Even with 'The' it adds upto 50 which is again a Mercury number of great authority).
18, though a compound number of 9, is full of upheavals and controversial situations ,where the native always has to fight against odds in life.It is therefore the least desirable number of the 9 group.
A vital branch of numerology is based on combined analysis of planets and numbers, known as astro numerology. Pythagaros, who had invented the Law of vibration, stated that according to that law, each and every number has a particular vibration.
The planets represented by the numbers are:-No.1-Sun, No.2-Moon, No.3-Jupiter, No.4-Rahu, No.5-Mercury, No.6-Venus, No.7-Kethu, No.8- Saturn, No.9-Mars.
There is a practice of coining names based on the strength of planets in the native's horoscope. For instance, if somebody's Rahu is strong, a name that adds upto the number 4(compound numbers-13, 22, 31, 40, 49 etc. ) is recommended for the native despite Western numerology's contempt for all compound numbers of 4. Even vedic astrology states that Rahu is responsible for skin diseases of a virulent type, misunderstandings, fear from opponents and poison.
A startling example of the above is the case of Michael Jackson. Interestingly his names (first as well as surname) adds upto 22 individually.
MICHAEL (4135153)-22, JACKSON (1132375)-22.
The genius pop icon suffered from a skin related problem known as vitiligo. At sometime of his career he was also involved in a fire accident that had caused extensive damage to his skin. The subsequent operations performed on him to save his face and skin, altered his looks to drastic proportions. All these facts about him were widely publicised and well-known to general public. The double Rahu in his name even exposed him to constant upheavals and controversies in his personal life. Therefore the number of Rahu is not altogether devoid of problems.
On the other hand I found the compound number of 13 to be quite magnetic. Especially the abbreviated versions like, TVS (463), BPL (283),AIADMK (111442), BSNL (2353), PBS (823), SPB (382), MLV (436) , KVN (265) etc. Though not abbreviated,'NALLI' (51331) could be included in the list. This number sparks off regeneration and great changes.
A strong Rahu (4 and all compound numbers of 4) in the horoscope indicates one's prowess in Veena and it is not surprising that Veena (65551) adds upto 22 which is a Rahu number!
Kethu, 7 is another number that surprises me! According to Western chaldean method of numerology, 7 is considered extremely harmful as a name number. All its compound numbers like 16 (known as the shattered citadel), 25 (extreme trials and tribulations in early life), 34 ( same as 25), 43 (worst of all, revolution, strife, upheaval and dangers), 52 etc., are treated with fear, making people opt for a Venus or Mercury number in the place of Kethu.
Two examples of 43 are:-
SALMAN (313415)- 17,1+7=8 RUSHDIE (2635415) -26, 2+6=8 added upto 43 and individual first and surnames added to 8 each (first name value:8 and surname value:8), ruled by saturn which is the most karmically testing and trying planet. Even in his surname, the lexigram of the same when split, give rise to two potently negative words! In this case, a change in the spelling of his surname and opting for a different compound vibration is mandatory in order to make life hassle-free for him.
Similar example of another person who is also an author is:-
TASLIMA (4133141)-17, 1+7=8 NASREEN (5132555)- 26,2+6=8
It is ironical that the above mentioned are authors, carrying the heavy burden of a double saturn in both first as well as surnames ( adding upto a 43) and also leading similar lifestyles. In such cases, spelling changes in their names in order to achieve a favourable number becomes mandatory.
Smt.M.S.Subbulakshmi, famously known as MS (4,3) adding to 7 has proved lucky for her as the number coincides with her birthdate which is 16th (of September). Any name number which adds upto the birth date value is extremely lucky and carries with it the blessing of the cosmos.
Even if the abbreviation MS (as she was more popularly known) added upto 7,a Kethu number (same as her birthdate value of 16), SRIDEVI is 22 and added to 4, a Rahu number (same as her birthdate value of 13th August), the numbers prove to be rewarding for gaining immense popularity, due to the coincidence of their dates of birth and name numbers.
Other successful Kethu numbers are:- RELIANCE (25311535)-25, T.R.MAHALINGAM (4.2.4151315314)- 34, AISHWARYA RAI (113561211 211)- 25, AMITABH BACHCHAN (1414125 21353515)-43, etc.
Mars, ( number 9) is perfectly projected through the ace thriller film KILL (9) BILL (9). This superbly shot stunning movie, that has made me an ardent fan of Uma Thurman, wreaks of violence and aggressive action as a result of the double 9 (fiery Mars) in the name of the movie!
KEYWORDS:-I also search for keywords (lexigram codes without word jumbling ) and found them to be relevant codes in conveying predominant karmic issues concerning the native.
It is loud and clear that one can never become the greaTEST without a test-Lord Rama, Lord Sita, and the Dasavatharas, great Sanyasis and avataara purushaas like Adi Sankaracharya, Paramacharya ( the tests in case of true sanyasis is the austere life they lead!).
I have wondered how a FUNeral could be 'fun' and a 'real fun' at that! Going by our scriptures, I am sure it is real fun for the departed soul to be freed from 'maya' (illusion)!
This pattern of ideas set me thinking about many other terms like MARriage, feMALE, woMAN, torMENTOR, heART, lOVER, PASSion, MOTHer,mOTHER, fatHER, brotHER, husBAND, HEAVEn, mUSic, sLAUGHTER, etc.
Maybe, late Sri Rajiv Gandhi's name should never have been spelt -" Rajeev Gandhi " as that could have averted the "die in grenade danger" lexigram in his name!In the case of public figures (politicians, movie stars, musicians, artistes etc.,) the danger of extreme vibration of name, due to their names appearing in newspapers and journals (increasing the count to a few million times due to that many number of copies printed!) is hazardous and makes it absolutely necessary for the concerned entity to take care that their names are not misspelt!
Sometime ago I had received a forward about lexigrams, which I found to be interesting:-
PRINCESS DIANA- END IS A CAR SPIN
ASTRONOMER- MOON STARER
DESPERATION- A ROPE ENDS IT
THE EYES- THEY SEE
THE MORSE CODE- HERE COME DOTS
ELECTION RESULTS-LIES- LET'S RECOUNT
SLOT MACHINE- CASH LOST IN ME
SNOOZE ALARMS- ALAS!NO MORE Z'S
DECIMAL POINT- I AM A DOT IN PLACE
THE EARTH QUAKES- THAT QUEER SHAKE
ELEVEN PLUS TWO- TWELVE PLUS ONE
To wind up on a note of humour:-
MOTHER-IN-LAW- WOMAN HITLER
I have understood that the problem of lexigram and numerology arises because of the language,English. Without fighting or opposing karma, a person could neutralise bad vibrations in his/ her name by writing it down in mother tongue or sanskrit for atleast 3 times ( only if such an exercise becomes absolutely necessary!)
LIKHITHA JAPAM:-The best practice is "likhitha japam" , which is the written exercise of mantras related to the chosen deity to cross hurdles in life. This practice again should not be done in English,as that would amount to problems related to lexigram and numerology! Likhitha japam is best done in mother tongue or Devanagari.
A few mantras are:-
1)For success in all endeavours-Sri Rama Jayam
2)For great inner strength-Sri Mathrey Namaha
3)For love-Om Parama Prema Roopaya Namaha
4)To overcome misunderstandings between couple-Sri Radhakrishnaya Namaha
5)To enhance beauty and attraction-Om Padmasundaryai Namaha
6)For education and intellect-OmAim Saraswathyai Namaha
7)To remove obsatcles and blockages in chakras-Om Gum Ganapathaye Namaha
8)For the grace of Guru-Sri Gurubhyo Namaha.etc.
There are many more mantras suited for various problems and it is not necessary to incur new karma by changing names! Interestingly, I happened to browse this site http://www.9dozen.com/ which could be used for "likhitha japam", this could be useful for people who work with computers or who simply do not have the time for a pen and paper!

The name game! ( Part 1)
I have observed that in today's world, numerology is a powerful occult science that yields immediate and effective results. Like how every plus has a minus, even this practice has a definite drawback to it, and that is called 'lexigram'.
Numerology is all about the numerical value of a person's name. In certain cases the name given by parents at the time of birth could contain letters amounting to an inimical vibration and unfavourable to the life number (which is the total sum of the birth date, month and year) of the native.
In such cases, modern numerology advocates an alteration in the spelling of the name of the native. Sometimes it could mean deletion/addition of an alphabet or deletion/addition of a vowel! After the name alteration, the native is advised to write his/her name as many number of times and days as the total numerical value of his/her name. I have observed that such a practice could yield harmful results when the 'lexigram' of the new name is not double-checked for possible bad/negative/evil lexigram results.
What is lexigram? The term lexigram has been used to describe a mystical property of words. A lexigram decodes hidden messages in words or titles by putting together full sentences from letters in that word that convey a deeper meaning of the original word. It is considered a spiritual process.
My Guru in lexigram is none other than Linda Goodman. I have been fascinated by her revelations (in her book, Star Signs, the secret codes of the Universe) regarding lexigram so much so that it has become my practice to mentally decode the name (including surname, which indicates situation, life style and temperament) of any person I happen to meet.In that process I have been able to appreciate the authenticity of lexigram due to the accuracy of the decoded messages in describing the concerned person! As somebody acutely conscious of the power of lexigram, I am wary of modern numerology that advocates either deletion or addition of alphabets in names that would amount to removing a positive message from the name or introducing a negative message into the concerned name!
To start with the basics,I have observed that Linda Goodman's Chaldean method (which is also called the mystical numerology) is commonly followed due to its simple theory which involves comparitive study of the life number [which is achieved by adding the date, month and year of birth] and the name number of the native for compatibility between the two) . The result is quite effective. The alphabetical value in the Chaldean method is as follows:-
A-1, B-2, C-3, D-4, E-5, F-8, G-3, H-5, I-1, J-1, K-2, L-3, M-4, N-5, O-7, P-8, Q-1, R-2, S-3, T-4, U-6, V-6, X-5, y-1, z-7.
Without getting into the nitty-gritty of life-path-number-versus-name-number-compatibility, the Chaldean method provides an easy way out by determining the nature of certain numbers. The numbers that are meant for fine arts, beauty, love & romance, cosmetics etc. is 6 (ruled by Venus)and all the compound numbers that add to 6. The number meant for communication, advertising, journalism, media works like radio and television is 5 (ruled by Mercury) . For someone in the field of fine arts,I had always found 5 more effective than 6, because communication is a vital factor for arts. Even if the native is not performing in public, expression ('bhava' and 'manodharma') come under the category of communication and Mercury is an important planet for all musicians.
The compound numbers that add upto 5 are 14, 23, 32, 41, 50 and so on. I personally found 14 to be risk and accident prone, 23 as a solid number capable of fighting lone battles and emerging as the victor even against worst odds and enemies (no wonder that this number is known as "The Royal star of the Lion"), 32 for exuding personal magnetism thereby attracting groups of people and a lively, social atmosphere, 41 as absolutely potent, but the transit from the original name to a 41 vibration is extremely trying and difficult to withstand, 50 to make the native matured, as a teacher or a preacher of some sort.
As a student of astrology, I had interacted with many numerologists, pronologists and astrologers to learn new approaches. I knew of this reputed astrologer who had a penchant for throwing in a good measure of "h"s into a name to somehow bring about a '41' vibration in the name. He firmly believed that 41 could raise the native to unimaginable heights and he could be right.Except that too many 'h's could mar the lexigram potential of the name.
My astrologer friend was keen that I change the spelling of my name to -E.GHAYETHREE to achieve a 41 (this despite my other name,VEENAI GAYATHRI ,( a name which I acquired when my articles were published in Kumudam almost three decades ago) adding to 41 (655511 31114521)! Not only does it look awkward, but the keyword, 'gay' is replaced by 'hay', which means dried grass! Even for a 41 ,I would not like to be reduced to a lump of dried grass! I told my friend that handling Veenai Gayathri robbed me of my stamina for anymore 41s! Incidentally, my blog, "JASMINE STRINGS", adds to a 41.I had coined the name (because I think Jasmine flowers smell divine!)after careful scrutiny for any lexigram hitches.I liked the fragrance (jasmine),' rings' ( resonance), 'sings' (melodious), etc., the only hitch being the 'sting' in the name.I told myself I would handle any sting as and when it came my way!
There are many natural 41s in this world, A few examples are :-M.G.RAMACHANDRAN (4.3.214135154215), HARRY POTTER (51221 874452),LALGUDI G.JAYARAMAN (93133641 3. 111121415), ANGELINA JOLIE (15353151 17315), GEORGE BUSH (357235 2635) etc.,
I personally found even 23 to be an extremely safe and victorious number in projecting one's personality. Few examples,J.JAYALALITHA (1.1113131451), BEATLES (2514353), D.K.JAYARAMAN (4.2.111121415) etc.
32 is magnetic for speeches, poetic recitation etc. P.B.SRINIVAS, multi-faceted singer/writer/poet/linguist/orator etc. is a fantastic example of this number!
I had found 66 to be absolutely fantastic for veena playing. I happened to read the book on numerology by Sri Laxmidoss, which was quite analytical based on planets and their relationship to numbers. It was casually mentioned in the book that ladies who played the veena would benefit from the double Venus in 66(more so,because it is exalted in the house of Pisces owned by Jupiter [6+6==12, a compound number of 3 which is a Jupiter number).I wanted to try it out and a few years back, when I had a lot of leisure time, I started writing my name (GAYATHRIVASANTTASHOBHA-[3111452161315441357251] which is my birth name given by my parents,I had to delete a 'h' from Vasantha and add a 't' to it) religiously for 66 times for nearly one month in an effort to test the results.I was fascinated to discover that I played more veena than ever before, could create novel ideas and felt very good in general.I would constantly be with the veena, and my ease on the instrument during the 66-vibration period was tremendous to say the least! But soon the strain of writing a big name for 66 times became too much to take and I abandoned the entire exercise midway. In the event I also discovered that more letters in the name meant more additions to qualities, events, situations and changes in life,( due to lexigram) which I felt were unwarranted and unwelcome despite 'Gayathrivasanttashobha' having a 'NO' to cancel negative meanings in my name! This also made me realise how much more peaceful life would be without additions in the name, resulting in too many code meanings and messages! I had learnt astrology and numerology only due to my interest in occult studies, all the while maintaining my belief in God as the Supreme Being; realizing the simple truth that changing names amounted to fighting or opposing karma.
As a matter of analysis, my natural name E.Gayathri may be decoded as 'rate', 'they hear her art', 'they rate her art','they gather at her art', 'right', 'grit', 'eight' (?), 'try', 'hearty', etc. (except the 'eight' part I understand the rest), but I could not bring myself to adjust to the fact that 'they hate her', 'they hate Gayathri'. Many a time I shared my fears (about 'they- hate- her' -code) with my husband and he consoled me in his usual philosophic manner. He explained that to be hated, to be abused or scolded, to be insulted and hurt; for no rhyme or reason are the best things to happen to oneself (that is , when the affected person does not resist or strive to clear his/her name by opposing or fighting against the accusation). Such an unjustified attack on somebody would reduce the victim's karma by leaps and bounds, not only that, God would shower His blessings and grace only on a defenseless person! He quotes Bhagavad Gita's sloka from the 12th chaptervery often, "Thulya -Ninda- Sthuthir- Mouni-Santhushto-Enakenachith
Anikethaha - sthiramathihi-bhakthiman-me-priyo-naraha!"
Literal Translation:-"One who is equal to friends and enemies, who is equipoised in honour and dishonour, heat and cold, happiness and distress, fame and infamy, who is always free from contamination, always silent and satisfied with anything, who does not care for any residence, who is fixed in knowledge and engaged in devotional service, is very dear to Me!"
My husband's reasoning gave me a lot of comfort and it stuck in my mind so much so that, I kind of like the 'they-hate-her' vibration!
It is important to note that the first name has to be studied along with the surname (husband's name or family/village name) to derive coded messages and meanings.

Sri Krishnashtami
(A rare image of Krishna playing the flute and Radha playing the veena (rudhra vallaki).)
Powerful ways to invoke Lord Krishna:-
Mantras when chanted continuously, in whatever condition (except for certain unclean and prohibited situations ),time or place will yield maximum results. The mantra has to get into the system of the practitioner, it has to flow along with every drop of blood within the body and every breath taken inside, that way the mantra becomes part and parcel of oneself. Normally such a recitation of a mantra would yield results within just one week or maximum ten days.
Krishna mantras are extremely powerful, and these are a few of them:-
1)To experience Lord Krishna in one's heart and to literally feel His presence in day to day life (even today), one has to read atleast one page of Srimad Bhagavatham everyday. It is better to maintain a particular timing for the parayanam.
2)In extreme difficulties, trials and tribulations the following sloka (recited continuously within oneself) will yield immediate results :-
"Hey Krishna!Dwaarakaavaasin! Kwaasi Yaadava Nandana! Apadbhihi Paribhoothaamaam,Thraayashvaashu Janaardhana!"
3) To attract social gatherings, group of friends or relatives or to allure public,"Om Kleem Krishnaaya Govindaaya Gopeejanavallabhaaya Swaaha!"
4)To get the vision of Lord Krishna in one's dreams in whatever relationship one seeks with Him, one must do the 'anusandhanam' -repitition of the 6th sloka of second chapter (Sankhya Yoga or the yoga of Knowledge) along with every sloka of the eleventh chapter (The yoga of the vision of the Universal Form) of the Bhagavad Gita.
The sixth sloka of the second chapter :-
"Kaarpanyadoshopahatasvabhaavaha Pruchchaamithvaam Dharmasammoodhachethaaha,Yachchreyah Syaannischitham broohi thanme
Shishyastheham shaadhi maam thvaam prapannam!"
The above prayer should be done everyday for 4o days, especially on Ekadasi,Pournami,Ashtami ,Dashami and Rohini nakshatram days to attain the vision of Lord Krishna in dreams.
5) To bring back or infuse love into a relationship,"Om Radhakrishnaya Namaha".
6)When Jupiter (Guru) is malefic or misplaced in one's horoscope; during Guru Mahadasa or during malefic transit of Guru in the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 8th,10th, and 12th houses from moon in their natal charts, one should chant Sri Krishnaashtakam every morning and especially on Thursdays.By reciting the ashtakam, the malefic results due to Jupiter would be nullified.
Sri Krishnaatshtakam:-
Vasudevasutham Devam Kamsa Chanooramardhanam
Devakee Paramaanandam Krishnam Vande Jagathgurum!
Athasee Pushpasamkaasham Haara Noopura Shobhitham
Rathnakankanakeyooram Krishnam Vande Jagathgurum!
Kutilaalaka Samyuktham Poornachandra Nibhaananam
Vilasathkundaladharam Devam Krishnam Vande Jagathgurum!
Mandaaragandha Samyuktham Chaaruhaasam Chathurbhujam
Bahirpinchaavachoodaangam Krishnam Vande Jagathgurum!
Uthphulla- Padma-Pathraaksham Neela -Jeemootha-Sannibham
Yaadavaanaam Shirorathnam Krishnam Vande Jagathgurum!
Rukminee- Kelisamyuktham Peethaambaram Sushobhitham
Avaaptha Thulaseegandham Krishnam Vande Jagathgurum!
Gopikaanaam Kuchadwandwa Kumkumaankitha Vakshasam
Sreeniketham Maheshvaasam Krishnam Vande Jagathgurum!
Sreevathsaankam Mahoraskam Vanamaalaaviraajitham
Shankhachakradharam Devam Krishnam vande Jagathgurum!
Krishnaashtakamidam Punyam Praatharutdhaaya Yah Pateth
Kotijanmakrutham Paapam Smarena Vinashyathi!
7) For people who are suffering from malefic placement of Rahu,or Rahu Mahadasa or Kalasarpa Dosham in the horoscope, the parayanam of Narayaneeyam and especially the chapter and slokas of Lord krishna's Kaliyamardhanam would yield immediate results.
8)"Simhaha Prasenam Simho Jaambavathaa Hathaha Sukumaaraka Maarothee,Thava Hyesha Syamanthakaha!"
The above sloka is sung as a lullaby by the daughter of Jambavatha to the little son of Jambavatha, while putting him to sleep.By reciting this sloka, one would regain one's lost reputation or clear his/her name of blemish or an unwarranted blame. This sloka encompasses the entire Syamanthakamani episode of Sri Krishna. This sloka is recommended by Paramacharya in His Deivaththin Kural,4th Volume for everybody to recite in their daily prayers to attain their wishes and to lead a blemishless life.
9)For girls who wish to get married, especially for girls whose lagna and Rahu are conjoined or whose Mars is conjoined with kethu in their horoscopes, the 4th sloka from the 21st Canto of Narayaneeyam would yield results:-
"Varshe Pratheechi Lalithaathmani Kethumaale
Leelaavisesha Lalithasmitha Shobhanaangam
Lakshmyaa Prajaapathisuthaischa Nishevyamaanam
Thasyaahaa Priyaaya Dhruthakaamathanum Bhaje Thvaam!"
10)Daily rendition of Sri Parthasarathy krithi in Suddha Dhanyasi by Sri Muthuswami Dikshithar (set to rupaka thalam) is meant to invoke Lord Krishna when the practitioner is in crisis and needs the guidance and direction from Lord Krishna as Sarathy, to take control of the practitioner's life into His hands to lead him/her.
11) Innumerable krithis on Lord Krishna composed by Sri Dikshithar (the rare Bala Krishnam in Gopika Vasantham ), Sri Narayana Theertha, Sri Purandaradasa, Sri Oothukadu Venkata Subbaiyer, Meerabai, Ambujam Krishna etc. and many other composers are outpourings of love for Lord Krishna and rendering them as prayers is as effective as slokas and mantras due to the blessings and vibrations of the saintly composers.
12)To invoke Nayika Bhavam in oneself towards Lord Sri Krishna, one must render all the ashtapadis of Sri Jayadeva (Gita Govindam) and the raga Brindavani and Abheri which are dear to Radha.
13)Empathizing with Radha through slokas and songs composed on Her would endear the practitioner to Lord Krishna!

Ragas/Navarasas/Emotions
The navarasas are 1) shantha (peace and serenity) 2) veera (valour and courage), 3) karuna (grief and compassion, 4) rowdra (anger) 5) shringara(love and romance,), 6) bhibhatsa(disgust), 7) hasya (joy and mirth), 8) adbhutha (wonder) and 9) bhaya (fear).
The emotions mentioned above are represented by certain ragas, such as:-
1)Shantha- this rasa is perfectly represented by the raga Shama, Yadukula Kambodhi, Madhyamavathi and Surati to mention a few.
2)Veera -Athana, Nata, Gambheeranata, Hamsanandi and Arabhi to mention a few.
3)Karuna-Sahana, Kanada, Mukhari, Punnagavarali and Shanmukhapriya to mention a few.
4)Rowdra-Athana, Arabhi, Chalanata, Panthuvarali and Darbaar to mention a few.
5)Shringara- Behaag, Kamas, Kapi, Karaharapriya,Yamankalyani, Brindavani and Neelambari to mention a few.

9)Bhaya-Revathi, Gowlipanthu, Dwijavanthi, Chakravakam and Sarasangi to mention a few.
Apart from the above there are other emotions like confusion and chaos which come under the category of bheebhatsa and bhaya. Most of the janya ragas of the vivadi melas would suit such emotions.
a)Suramani (a janya raga of the 48th melakartha,Divyamani)-SRGMDNS,SNDMGRS;b)Thoomala (a janya raga of the 42nd melakartha, Raghupriya )- SRGMNS,PMRGRS; c)Nandanapriya (a janya raga of the 72nd melakartha Rasikapriya)- SRMDNS,SNDMRS;d) Rakthakshi (janya raga of mela raga Rasikapriya) -SRGMDS,SDMGRS;e)Srikanthavilepini (janya of the 54th mela raga Viswambari)- SRGMDNS,SNDMGRS etc.convey the emotions of confusion and chaos.Even the 2nd melakartha Ratnangi and the 47th melakartha Suvarnangi could be included in the category of chaos and confusion.
Feelings of regret (under the bhaya category) are perfectly conveyed by Dwijavanthi.Feelings of fear born out of abuse and supression of feelings are conveyed by Sarasangi and Revathi.
Shringara is a category that consists of many stages and emotions.Feelings of unexpressed and budding love are characterised by Brindavani.Advancement towards verbal expression of love is conveyed by Kapi and further developments are conveyed by Behaag, kamas and Karaharapriya, in that order.
Love that defies social norms and principles is perfectly conveyed by janya ragas of 61st melakartha raga, kanthamani. Love and alliances that are not approved - Divayadhorini (janya of Kanthamani) SRGPDS,SNDMGRS; clandestine meetings are represented ironically by the janya raga named Preyasi (janya of Kanthamani) SGMPDNS,SNDPMGS-in this raga the exclusion of the rishabha amounts to doing away with social norms and principles. The notes (SG) also indicate the bold step taken against principles towards forbidden, shady (MPDN) interests.
Bhamamani (janya of Kanthamani),SRMGDNS,SNDMGRS falls under the same category.
Shantha, peace after a fight or quarrel is represented by Shama; tranquility as a result of meditation is conveyed through Madhyamavathi; striving for peace and finding a solution to a conflicting situation are conveyed by Surati.
Adbhutha, wonder at discovering something beautiful is conveyed by Bilahari; something of value and substance is conveyed through Anadabhairavi; something concerning progress is conveyed by Vasantha.
Anger (Rowdra) is born out of various situations and emotions.Anger is not the same in all the situations, the emotion is reflected differently based on events, people, nature and situations. Righteous anger born out of masculinity and valour is represented by Athana and Panthuvarali. Anger due to quarrelsome nature is conveyed by Chalanata.
Veera's subdivisions like pomposity is conveyed by Balahamsa (janya of the 28th melakartha,Harikambodhi)- SRMPDS,SNDPMRMGS; heroism by Athana; and valour in a fit of rage by Hamsanandi.
Karuna ,compassion out of pity is conveyed through Mukhari and Saveri; compassion due to overflowing love is represented by the raga sahana, Kanada and Hindolam.
Hasya, joy and laughter again depends on various attitudes and situations.Comedy is represented by Kuntalavarali (janya of 28th mela raga,Harikambodhi)- SMPDNDS,SNDPMS; youthful zest and joy are represented by Kadanakuthoohalam (janya of 29th melakartha ragam, Sankarabharanam)-SRMDNGPS,SNDPMGRS; and joy born out of maturity is conveyed by Navarasakanada (28th melakartha raga Harikambodhi janya)- SGMPS,SNDMGRS; Janaranjani (29th melakartha, Sankarabharanam janya)-SRGMPDPNS,SDPMRS; and Kambodhi.

Lord Shiva's poetic hymn on Radha and Their knowledge of veena!
Brahma Samhitha (5.45) compares Lord Shiva to yoghurt and Lord Krishna to milk, to emphasise that they are one and the same. The followers of Gowdiya Vaishnavism also worship Lord Shiva, whom they consider as a counterpart of Lord Krishna. On the auspicious night of Shivarathri, the Krishna devotees offer "pradakshinam" to the Radha Kund and to the Saivaite temples in the village. It is a colourful festival, with devotees singing the hymns and praises of Lord Shiva as they offer their circumambulation.
Further, the followers of Gowdiya Vaishnavism claim that Lord Shiva as Gopeshwar had participated in the "Rasa Leela".Once while meditating,Lord Shiva was captivated by the sweet music from the flute of Lord krishna. This music had led Him to the state of 'samadhi.'Lord Shiva, curious to find out the origin of the divine music from the flute, followed the tone all the way upto Vrindavan where He found Lord Krishna in Rasa Leela.
Desiring to participate in the Rasa Leela,He was advised by Vrinda Devi to bathe in Mansarovar to take the form of a female.
Lord Shiva danced amidst the gopis as a beautiful woman, but He was identified by Lord Krishna and given the name of Gopeshwar.
Even now Lord Shiva is worshipped in Vrindavan as Gopeshwara in the mornings (in linga form) and in the evenings the linga is decorated as a beautiful woman and worshipped as a Gopi.
In the Urdhvamnaya Tantra, none other than Sri Vyasa Maharishi had himself recorded the following Radha Kripa Kataaksha Stotram as told by none other than Lord Shiva Himself!

According to ancient Hindu texts,Rudra means Shiva and rudra veena was played by Lord Shiva. The first rudra veena was made by Lord Shiva using His own intestines as strings! Even Goddess Radha was known for Her exepertise on veena and the veena which She played was known as the rudra vallaki.
Devotees who recite the above stotra on full moon days, the eighth, tenth, eleventh and thirteenth thithi after the waxing and waning moon will be blessed by Goddess Radha's kripa in the form of overflowing love and inexplicable sublime joy of "prema" for Lord Krishna. The best path to reach God is through "Nayika Tattvam" which will be showered on the devotee in abundance by reciting the kripa kataksha stotram of Goddess Radha!

Radhe Radhe!
"Vina Radhaa prasaadena Krishna Praapthirnajaayathe
Thathah Sri Raadhika Krishnau Smaraneeyou su samayuthe!"
Lord Krishna cannot be attained without the presence of Radha. The Lord grants His vision to the devotee who meditates on the form of Lord Krishna in the company of His divine consort,Radha!
Radha was born on the thithi ashtami, in the star of Jyeshta in the month of Bhadrapada to King Vrishabhanu and Queen Kirthi. Radhashtami falls 15 days after Sri Krishna Janmashtami. She was born in a small village called Rawal on the banks of river Yamuna. She was believed to be older than Sri Krishna and after birth She had opened her eyes only when Lord Krishna was born.
Radha was known for Her stunning beauty and Her expertise in fine arts. She was described as a "Gandharava stree" for her dancing skills and expertise on rudra veena.
"Veena-Vadana Sangeetha Rasalaasya Visaaradha
Narada Pramukhodgeetha Jagadaanandi Sadyasah"-this a verse from Radha Ashtothram, describing Her expertise in veena, music and dance.
Her favourite ragas were known to be Megh malhar (close to Raga Brindavani) and Dhanasri (close to Abheri).
The 12the century poet,Jayadeva had composed "Githa Govindam",describing the relationship between Krishna and the gopis of Vrindavan, and in particular one gopi named Radha.
The twelve chapters of Githa Govinda is the erotic love expression between Krishna and Radha, defining the ecstasy of samyoga between Paramatma and Jeevatma.
Radha is the Goddess of love, beauty and fine arts, especially veena. The strains of veena endear the practitioner to the Divine Consort of Lord Krishna.Prayers to Goddess Radha bestows beauty, charm and expertise in arts(especially veena), on the devotee.
Rendering of Jayadeva Ashtapadis vocally or instrumentally balance the yin and yang (masculine and feminine factors) in oneself by ironing out excesses of either factor or enhancing the quality of yin and yang, whereever it is lacking.
The beauty and attributes of Radha are known to be compared to Goddess Tripurasundari.
The stanza from Tripura Sundari Ashtakam,
"Kadamba Vanavaasineem Kanaka Vallakee Dhaarineem
Mahaarha Manihaarineem Mukha Samullasadvaaruneem
Dayaavibhavakaarineem Vishadalochaneem Chaarineem
Trilochana Kutumbineem Tripurasundareem Ashraye!"-(I seek refuge in the immaculate and beautiful Mother,Who carries a Veena at Her breasts,Whose tresses are curly,Who resides in water-lily petals, Who is inimical to cunning minds, Who has eyes which are red as though due to the consumption of wine, Who entices the destroyer of Manasija (Lord Shiva), Who is the daughter of Sage Matanga (as Matangi) and who speaks mellifluously)-this sloka imbibes the spirit of Radha and Her great qualities bestowing on the devotee love, peace ,joy and great expertise in veena.
The greatest Radha Mantra is "Aum Parama Prema Rupaya Namaha".Chanting of this mantra atleast 108 times everyday, brings about divine intervention and divine love into one's life.
There are many prayers on Radha, like Radha Kripa Kataksha Stavam, Sri Radhika Ashtakam, Radha Kunda Ashtakam,Radha Sahasranamam etc. for the devotees of the Goddess of beauty and fine arts.
Radhastami is celebrated with great religious fervour in Radha temple in Barsana, on the outskirts of Vrindavan. Men, women and children sing and dance with delirious joy and devotion, expressing their great devotion on Her Janmashtami.
Radhastami falls on August 27th this year.Radhe Radhe!

Ragas/Seasons
The greatest western thinker who related to the art of music is Herbert Read. He observed , "all art tends to music".Human being is inseparable from his surroundings. At times it happens that the day, the night, the morning, the evening, the season, the nature, the cloud, the thunder, the lightening, the twilight, the moon and the like exercise an influence on the consciousness of the man and take him into a mood. This mood gives rise to a rasa. Every possible kind of rasa in relation to these circumstantial surroundings has been found to be conveyed through a raga. So, the world of ragas has all the variety of life and experience. This is most true about Indian Music. Seasons,or the Rithus are a dimension of the vast game of life and creation.
"BHRUGOR-RUTHUVASANTHASCHA KUJABHAAVANOSCHA GREESHMAKAHA
CHANDRASYA VARSHAA VIGNYEYAA SHARACHCHAIVA THADHAA VIDAHA
HEMANTHOPI GURORGNYEYAHA SHANESTHU SHISHIRO DWIJAA."
CHANDRASYA VARSHAA VIGNYEYAA SHARACHCHAIVA THADHAA VIDAHA
HEMANTHOPI GURORGNYEYAHA SHANESTHU SHISHIRO DWIJAA."
"Venus's Rithu is Vasantha,of Mars and Sun is the Greeshma, the Moon's is Varsha, Mercury's is Sharad, and,O'Wise, Hemangtha is known to be of Jupiter, and Saturn's is Shishira,O'Twice born!"-(Brihat Parasara Hora Shastra,Nature and Form of the Grahas,45-46. )
Rithu refers to a period of time that is fixed for some special occasion, in this case, the occasion of the seasons.Six rithus are acknowledged. Each rithu lasts two Saura, solar months.A saura month is thirty degrees of the Sun's movement in respect to the equinoxes and solstices; it is the same as the tropical month of the well-known Sun Signs are derived. In fact, the saura months are known as Aries,Taurus, Gemini etc. in the Astronomical Siddhanthas in exactly the same manner as the Sun Signs.

Shishira "cold"-Saturn-Sun in western Sagittarius and Capricorn,(November 20th to January 20th).According to the Hindu Lunar months, they are Margashira and Pausha.
Vasantha "brilliant"-Venus-Sun in western Aquarius and Pisces,(January 20th to March 20th).According to Hindu Lunar months, they are Magha and Phalguni.
Grishma "hot"-Sun and Mars-Sun in western Aries and Taurus, (March 20th to May 20th).According to Hindu Lunar months they are Chaithra and Vaisakha.
Varsha "rainy"-Moon- Sun in western Gemini and Cancer, (May 20th to July 20th).According to Hindu Lunar month they are Jyeshta and Ashaadha.
Sharad "mature"-Mercury- Sun in western Leo and Virgo, (July 20th to September 20th).According to Hindu Lunar months they are Shraavana and Bhaadrapada.
Hemantha "frost"-Jupiter-Sun in western Libra and Scorpio, (September 20th to November 20th).According to Hindu Lunar months they are Ashwina and Kaarthika.
The Sun is a secondary ruler of Grishma though the most important graha in respect to the seasons due to being their cause.Saturn rules the coldest part of the year. The season of saturn is colder than the season of Jupiter because the earth is actually further from the Sun in its revolution during that time. Venus rules the generative and brilliant-flowered period that roughly equates to spring.Mars rules the hot months during which the Sun gets hotter and hotter each day.The Moon rules the rainy months that water the crops.Mercury rules the period during which the crops and fruits mature.Jupiter rules the frosty months during which the leaves fall and the cold begins to set in."-ERNST WILHELM.
Even the cycles of time are connected with Chakras in the body according Kundalini Yoga theory. The highest Chakra called Sahasrara is beyond time and is dependent on the soul's journey towards higher spiritual levels. The lower six Chakras get mild activation during the seasons - Agna Chakra in Vasanth Rithu (spring), Vishuddha in Greeshma Rithu (summer), Anahatha in Varsha Rithu (rainy season in India), Manipura in Sarad Rithu (bright moon light), Swadhisthana in Hemantha Rithu (pre-winter), and Muladhara in Sisira Rithu (coldest winter).
Ragas for the six seasons:-
SHISHIR RITHU:-Shishir is one of the thousand names appearing in Vishnu Sahasranamam. This name originates from the civilization of the Indus Valley and the Gangetic Plains. It refers to the forthcoming winter season and the winter winds.
In the english months between November 20th to January 20th, the most auspicious Dhanur masam (Margazhi Masam) takes place. The atmosphere is charged with religious fervour. The lovely cool breeze that is so hard to experience during most of the year all over India, fills the atmosphere to touch everybody's heart with sublime feelings!People wake up early in the morning to offer prayers in their homes and temples.Women are filled with excitement to decorate their front yards with colourful rangoli. People relish every moment of the cool, lovely winter.
Ragas that are generally prescribed for Shishir Rithu are :-Nattaikuranji (Carnatic)-Rageshri(Hindusthani) and Sriranjani(Carnatic)-Bageshri(Hindusthani).Mayamalava gowla (Carnatic)-Bhairav (Hindusthani) is also assigned for this Rithu.
My manodharma brings to life Arabhi,Sudhdha Saveri,Suddha Dhanyasi, Abheri etc.
VASANTHA RITHU:- This season is known as the "King of seasons!" because it brings in freshness and novelty.Plants and trees start waking up from their deep slumber.Yellow is the predominant colour of this season, indicating the auspiciousness of the season.Birds that flew away during the extreme winters, slowly start coming back and the atmosphere is filled with the various tones of different birds chirping.Spring has arrived! The inexplicable play of Nature in all its splendour and glory beckons even kite-players.Vasanth Rithu is the season for kites and children play gleefully with their kites.
This season is meant for love and romance. Mythology says that Manmatha induced love between Lord Shiva and Parvathi during the season of spring. While Lord Shiva was in meditation, the lovely Parvathi, dressed in yellow ,with yellow flowers decorating her hair and a garland of yellow flowers in her hands, presented herself to Lord Shiva.Lord Shiva who was in deep meditation was subjected to the arrow of love aimed by the God of Kama,Manmatha and He became drunk with love for Parvathi.Even Kalidasa's "Kumara Sambhavam" mentions Vasantha Rithu as the season that kindled the fire of desire between the divine couple.
Even Sri Adi Sankaracharya in His 6th sloka in Soundarya Lahari has described the spring season associating it with Lord Manmatha!"
"Dhanuh Paushpam Maurvi Madhukaramayi Pancha Visikhah
Vasanthah Saamantho Malayamarudaayo Dhanarathaha
Thathaapyekaha Sarvam Himagirisuthe Kaamapi Krupaam
Apaangaaththe Labdhvaa Jagadidamanango Vijayathe!"
(Oh Daughter of the snow-clad Himalaya mountain!Kama deva, the God of love, has only a bow made of flowers, with its string comprised of a cluster of honeybees, and arrows barely five. The spring season is his assistant and the southern breeze his war-chariot.Yet,with such frail equipment, bodiless and alone though he be,manmatha conquers the entire universe, having obtained some favour through Thy benign side-glance.)
Vasant Panchami or Shree Panchami is celebrated during this season when Goddess Saraswathi is worshipped with great devotion all over Inida.
Vasanth Navaratri is celebrated during this season.Vaishno Devi temple in Jammu observes Navarathri during this period. The importance of the worship of Devi is mentioned in the Devi Bhagavatham.
These nine nights are also celebrated by the devotees of Lord Rama and is considered the spiritual New Year as on the ninth night, Lord Sri Rama, the incarnation of Lord Maha Vishnu was born.On the day of Rama Navami,Lord Sri Rama's birthday is celebrated with great festivities.
Ragas assigned for this season are:-Kapi,Hindolam,Kanada, Vasantha (Carnatic) Piloo, Basanth and Bahar (Hindusthani).
My manodharma,same as above.
GRISHMA RITHU:-The atmosphere during this season is extremely hot,dry and bright. The sun rays are very powerful and penetrating.People are generally tired and exerted even without much physical activity.
"Rithusamhara" by Kalidasa is a lyrical description of all seasons, starting with the Grishma Rithu.
Ragas assigned for this season are:-Darbari Kanada and Deepakam (Pantuvarli janyam).
My manodharama:-Thodi and Vakula Bharanam.VARSHA RITHU:-The rainy season follows the scorching heat of the summer months. The downpour of rainwater on the heated soil touches every heart ,the effect soothing and calming after the onslaught of extreme heat conditions.
Everybody yearns for Varsha Rithu apart from the Vasanth Rithu, rains evoking the romantic and creative spirit in every human being.During the monsoon, for example, many of the Malhar group of ragas, like 1)Shuddha Malhar,2) Mian Ki Malhar,3) Gaud Malhar,4) Nat Malhar,5) Surdasi Malhar,6)Dhoolia Malhar,7)Ramdasi Malhar,8) Mirabai Ki Malhar,9) Charjoo Ki Malhar,10)Jaijaiwanthi Malhar,11) Roopamanjari Malhar ,which are associated with the monsoon and ascribed the magical power to bring rain, are rendered.
Dhuliya Malhar captures the anticipatory mood where the pre-rain gusts kick up the dust(dhool).
The raga ideally suited for this season is Megh and Miya ki Malhar(Hindusthani) and Madhyamavathi or Brindavana Saranga , Megharanjani and Amrithavarshini(Carnatic).
My Manodharma is same as above.
SHARAD RITHU:-Sharad rithu follows Varsha rithu and prcedes Hemantha rithu. The scorching heat of summer is a distant memory, the coldness of winter is yet to come. The weather is mild, pleasing and very moderate.
Moonlit nights are enchanting during this rithu, they are well-known as Sharad Purnima. Poets and epics describe lovingly the beauty and joy of moonlit nights during Sharad rithu.
Soundarya Lahari, the tantrik creation of Sri Adi Sankaracharya praises the face of Mother Goddess as "Sharthachandra vadana!"
His 7th sloka, "KvanathKanchi Dhaama Karikalabha Kumbhasthananathaa
Pariksheenaa Madhye Parinathasharath Chandravadanaa
Dhanurbaanaan Paashaan Srunimapi Dadhaana Karathalaihi
Purasthaadaasthaam Na PuramathithuRahoPurushikaa!"
(May the divine Mother with Her slender waist girdled with jingling mini-bells,body slightly bent in the middle by the weight of Her breast resembling the frontal globes of the forehead of a young elephant,Her face blooming like the autumnal full moon and Her four hands holding bow, arrow, noose and goad and who is the pride of Shiva, manifest Her presence before us!)
In the 15th sloka of Soundarya Lahari the Acharya has said:-
"Sharath Jyotsnaa Shubhraam ShashiyuthajataajootamakutaamVarathraasathraanasphatikaghatikaapusthakakaraamSakrunnaaa Thvaa Nathvaa Kathamiva Sathaam SannidadhatheMadhuksheeradraakshaamadhurimadhureenah Phanithayaha!"
(How can torrents of words, excelling even honey, milk and grapes, help flowing from the mouth of good men who but once make prostration to Thee who art endowed with the lustre of the autumnal moon, who art holding Thy two hands in the pose of granting boons and offering protection, and sporting in the other two a rosary of crystal beads and a book, and who wearest the crescent moon in Thy crown of plaited locks!)
The radiance of Sri Radha, the Divine Spouse of Lord Krishna is described as "Koti Sharadendu Mandale!"
Terms like "Sharadendu Vilasam" are mentioned in abundance by creative poets,in comparison to the moonlit nights of Sharad rithu. It was on a moonlit night during Sharad Rithu that the "Rasaleela" of Lord Krishna and the Gopis took place on the banks of River Jamuna, amidst mango and kadamba groves on the Holy land of Vrindavan.
Sharad Navaratri ,celebration of the Shakthi Goddess,is known as the Maha Navaratri. It celebrates the slaying of Mahishasura by Goddess Durga. This festival is celebrated all over India with great religious fervour and devotion. The Eastern part of India glorifies this festival as one of the primary festivals.
Muthuswami Dikshithar's Kamalamba Navaavarnams are rendered with great devotion during Sharad Navaratri.
Ragas most suited for this season are:-Valachi (Carnatic),Kalavathi(Hindusthani),Malkauns(Hindusthani).
My manodharma-the Sharad Poornima nights evoke Poorikalyani,Hamsanandi and Chandrakauns.
HEMANTHA RITHU:-The nights are led by Pushya nakshatra. They are longer ,but quickly slip away.It is pre-winter and not very cold. The sun during this period is dull and obscured by mist and fog.The wind blows gently, the rivers have little water and minimum flow.
The most popular festivals of lights,Deepavali and Kaarthika Pournami take place during Hemantha rithu. The North Indian festival,Karva Chauth also takes place during this rithu. This is a festival performed by married women for the welfare of their husbands.
Bhartru Hari describes Hemantha Rithu in his Sringara Satakam. He states that the nights of men who are not protected by the embrace of deer-eyed-damsels from the snowy, gusty winds are equal to living hell.
Ragas best suited for this season are:-Yaman Kalyani,Shree and Behag.
My manodharma evokes same as above.

Eternal fragrance!
"Veena Vadana Tatvagnyah Shruthijaathi Vishaaradhah
Thaalagnyashcha apraythnena mokshamargam niyachchathi!"-(Yagnyavalkya Maharishi-Liberation or salvation can be easily attained by the practitioner who can play the veena effortlessly and perfectly in the aspects of shruthi, laya and manodharma!).
"Darshana Sparshanechasya Bhoga Swargaapavargade
Puneetho Viprahathyadi paathakaiah pathithamjanam!"(Sarangadeva says that the mere sight or touch of veena cleanses even a sinner who has slayed a brahmin!).
When musical notes are sung or played, they interact with the seven chakras of the body and not only that, they even represent Saptha Mathrikas, Brahmi, Maheswari, Kowmari, Vaishnavi, Varahi, Indrani and Chamundi. The sapthaswaras originate from the Sahasrara chakra and from there, they travel to their assigned positions to remain there.
The manner in which the Sapthaswaras (in descending order) travel from Sahasrara to their designated positions is illustrated below:-
Since Sahasrara is allotted the supreme position of containing all the Sapthaswaras, the order starts from Nishadam to Rishabham in the descending order,as a result the Saptha Mathrikas are mentioned from the last to the first in their order:-
1.Nishadam (ni) is represented by Chamundi Shakthi and correlates with the Muladhara Chakra. When the note "nishadam" is touched by the practitioner, the sound starts from Sahasrara and travels all the way below the spine to the Muladhara chakra and remains there. It has no upward motion.
2.Dhaivatham (dha) is represented by Indrani Shakthi and is related to the Swadhishtana Chakram. When the note "dhaivatham" is touched by the practitioner, the sound starting from Sahasrara ,travels all the way down to the Muladhara chakra and raises upwards to reach the Swadhishtana at the genital region and stationed there.
3.Panchamam (pa) is represented by Varahi Shakthi and is related to the Manipooraka Chakra. When the note "panchamam" is either sung or played on an instrument by the practitioner, the sound starting from Sahasrara Chakra travels all the way down to the Muladhara Chakra and raises to reach the Manipooraka Chakra at the solar plexus or navel region to be stationed there.
4.Madhyamam (ma) is represented by Vaishnavi Shakthi and related to the Anahatha Chakra. When the note "madhyamam" is touched by the practitioner, the sound that arises from the Sahasrara travels all the way down to the Muladhara Chakra, raises up from there to go to the Anahatha Chakra at the cardiac plexus or the heart region to stay there.
5.Gandharam (ga) is represented by Kowmari Shakthi and is related to the Vishudhi Chakra. When the note "gandharam" is touched by the practitoner, the sound travels from the Sahasrara Chakra way down to the Muladhara Chakra and raises upto reach the Vishudhi Chakra, at the carotid plexus at the throat region and stays there itself.
6.Rishabham (ri) is represented by Maheswari Shakthi and is related to the Agna Chakra. When the note "rishabham" is touched by the practitioner, the sound travels from the Sahasrara all the way down to the Muladhara Chakra and raises upto the Agna Chakra which is at the medula plexus between the eyebrows and stays there.
7.Sadjyamam (sa) is represented by Brahmi Shakthi and is related to the Sahasrara Chakra , where all the swaras originate as well as dissolve themselves.
The movement of 'prana' in the human body and the flow of sound, 'naada' in the veena is similarly patterned. According to Maithraayanniya Upanishad the prana circulates in the human body on a single day and night for 21,600 breaths. According to our ancestors, the sun revolves around the Mahameru 21,600 times in a single day. A day in the life of a man is known as one revolution of the earth and one breath of sun. 21,600 days constitute 60 years in a man's life time which is known as 'parivruthi'. Two 'parivruthis' constitute a 'kalachakram'. This is also known as 'Purusha Ayush' consisting of 120 years in astrology. This constitutes two days in the life of sun.
A drop of blood as it circulates within a human body takes along with it one breath of the human being. This drop of blood along with one breath takes nearly 7 minutes to circulate within the human body. Similarly, when the veena string is plucked once, the nada wave emanating from it takes nearly 7 minutes to travel back and forth between the bridge of the veena to the beginning fret of the veena.
Lord Shiva was known as 'Veena Gana Priya'. In Thiruvilayadal Puranam Lord Shiva takes the form of wood cutter and plays 'yazh' for the sake of his disciple 'Panipathiran'. Lord Shiva stated that yazh or veena is an instrument bubbling with life because kuril, nedil 'consonants' and' gamakam' can be played in it without interruption.
A man who recites Gayathri 100 times is absolutely elevated. He reduces 21,600 breaths to 108 breaths per day through pranayama. Hence he enhances one year of life span to 200 years of life span. The veena yogi, by meditating on the tharasthaayi shadjamam within the lotus of his heart is able to reduce the 21,600 breaths to 2,160 breaths. He reduces the same to 1,080 breaths by meditating on madhyasthayi shadjamam and to 540 breaths by meditating on the Aadhara Shadjamam. Therefore the yogic power of the three sthaayis contribute towards the strengthening of the longevity of man to make good use of life towards realising God.' (Incidentally the 'Hrudayakamalam' , the lotus of the heart) has 12 petals bearing
Bijakharas 'ka', 'kha', 'ga', 'gha', 'nga', 'cha', 'chcha', 'ja', 'jha', 'gnya', 'ta', 'tha'.
The first, eighth and eleventh petals 'ka' 'ja' and 'ta' are bheejaaksharas to be meditated upon to unravel the secrets and mysteries of all fine arts towards cosmic truth. Muthuswami Dikshitar's has composed the krithi 'Kanja thalaayadaakshi' in Kamalamanohari with these bijaksharas being emphasised in the beginning of the krithi itself. It is also interesting to note that Saint Thyagaraja composed' Sobhillu Sapthaswara' with the seven aksharas of the Tharaka Mantram 'Sri Rama Rama Rama' (Sri Ra Ma Ra Ma Ra Ma) in mind and not 'Sa ri ga ma pa da ni' as misunderstood by many. Saint Thyagaraja, overjoyed by the vision of Lord Rama sang in praise of the Tharaka Mantram which granted him the vision.
Bijakharas 'ka', 'kha', 'ga', 'gha', 'nga', 'cha', 'chcha', 'ja', 'jha', 'gnya', 'ta', 'tha'.

Saint Thyagaraja, overjoyed by the vision of Lord Rama sang in praise of the Tharaka Mantram which granted him the vision.
p.s:The comment posted by Music Lover, raising the doubt about why Sri Thyagaraja has composed "Sobhillu Sapthaswara" in a janya raga instead of a sampoorna raga is a very relevant and valid one, something that never struck me.It throws light on the fact that the saint composer was referring to the Tharaka Manthram by not composing "Sapthaswara" in a sampoorna raga! Narayani Stuti/Raga Narayani
SHLOKA FOR PROFICIENCY IN VEENA-Narayani Stuti is the 11th chapter of Sri Devi Mahatmyam. Devi Mahatmyam is also called the Durga Saptha shloki or The Chandi Paath. It is a part of the Markandeya Mahapurana. This purana is related by Markandeya Maharishi to Jaimini Maharishi, relating the history of the various manvantharas and it is during the story of the eighth Manu called Savarni that the chapters of the Chandi Paath occur.
In the 11the chapter of the Devi Mahatmyam, which recognised as Narayani Stuti, the Devas sing a stuti praising the deeds and attributes of Devi. She promises them that whenever evil arises in the world, She will take an avatar and defeat it.
This chanting of Narayani Stuti mitigates the evil of Rahu in one's horoscope.Rahu ,as I have observed plays a crucial role in veena playing, the placement of Rahu, its strength, etc.have always played a vital and very important role regarding veena.Pleasing Rahu and its prime deity Goddess Durga ,bestows upon the native abundant talent and physical prowess and finesse in veena technique.Rendering the raga Narayani also enhances veena-playing abilities as well as mitigating the evils of a mispalced Rahu or enhance an already well-placed Rahu in the native's horoscope.Raga Narayani has the famous krithi of Sri Thyagaraja,"Bhajana Seyu Maragamunu".Sri Muthuswami Dikshithar through the sahithya of his krithi, "Mahishaasura Mardhineem Namaami", set to misra chaapu thalam in Narayani has conveyed the spirit and life of the raga.
The recitation of Sri Narayani Stuti atleast once everyday, results in miraculous improvement and progress in veena by way of manodharma and stunning fluidity in handling veena. This sloka is the most powerful for veena practitioners, they will find almost instant results by chanting it.This also has the capacity to ward off enemies and clear the path towards success.

Eclipse/Veena
INCREASING POWER OF VEENA-The total solar eclipse will be visible in India between 5.28a.m. and 7.40 a.m on the 22nd of July,2009.This eclipse will occur in the constellation of Pushyami in Karkataka Rasi,Cancer Sign. The eclipse will be visible throughout India. The forth coming solar eclipse will have the longest duration of totality.A total eclipse takes place when the sun is completely obscured by moon.
Mythological references to eclipse are found in Srimad Bhagavatham and Mahabharatham and epics related to Maha Vishnu. In Hindu mythology it is believed that eclipses are caused by Rahu and Kethu.
In astronomy Rahu is considered the dragon's head and is also known as the north node of moon, the point where the Moon's orbit crosses the ecliptic.Kethu is known as the dragon's tail, which gives birth to comets and meteors and is known as the descending or the south node of the Moon. When Sun, Moon, Rahu and Kethu fall in the same zodiacal longitude,a solar eclipse takes place.
The entire period of eclipse is called as "parvakala" and highly charged. Therefore, during this period performing prayers, recitation of upadesha mantras, pithru tharpanam and charity are considered to be very sacred.Even chanting of veda mantras and slokas are highly recommended. It is believed that every action performed during the period of eclipse yields multifold results and that is exactly the reason why it is imperative to maintain one's purity and discipline during eclipse. The charity of Rs.100 during eclipse yields results of innumerable 100s,likewise,a sloka that is chanted one time during eclipse has the power of 1000 rectitations of the same. The Universe is contained within our system and therefore, during eclipse we are charged along with the atmosphere surrounding us.
Our scriptures shun acts of answering nature's call, sleeping, sexual act, eating and drinking during eclipse. It is also important to avoid any injuries to the body during eclipse in order to maintain purity and to avoid the negative results through certain actions.
For veena players, the best would be to practice veena all through the eclipse period. The practitioner would gain million times more than what he would gain out of practising during a normal course of time. During solar eclipse, the practitioner could play 'Surya Moorthe' in Sowrashtram , 'Chandram Bhaja Manasa' in Asaveri, 'Smaraamyaham sadaa Rahum' in Ramapriya, 'Mahaa suram' in Shanmukhapriya (if the practitioner does not know the krithis, compostions on Durga for Rahu and Moon and Vighneswara for Kethu could be rendered) and krithis on all deities with utmost devotion. It is important to tune the instrument perfectly,so that off-key tones are not charged. It is also essential to play on a veena ,whose melam is perfectly set,to avoid apaswarams, that could yield multi-fold bad results.
Playing veena during eclipse (solar or lunar) gives exceptional power to the player.Practising during that period is equal to penance on veena. In the forthcoming total solar eclipse, natives belonging to Pushyami, Anuradha, Utharabhadrapada, Punarvasu and Aslesha should perform remedial measures by performing suitable pariharams.
My DVD in which I had rendered Sri Venkateswara Suprabhatham, Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam and Bhaja Govindam was recorded during total solar eclipse in the year 2002.This was the year when Smt.M.S.Subbulakshmi was ailing , the producer of the album, Mr.Rajesh Dhupad, C.E.O. of Symphony Recording Company had arranged for the album to be released by Smt.M.S.Amma herself by her bedside in her residence in Kotturpuram.Smt.M.S.Amma had blessed me with the title,"Sangeetha Kala Saraswathi" during the occasion. The others present were my husband, Sri.E.V.Ramakrishna and Sri Atma.
